ROUNDUP: MY FAVE BUSINESS RESOURCES

I love a good lesson layered within a lesson, pastry-dough style.

(Mmm. Time for breakfast.)

Recent example:

Did you know I keep a running list of blog post requests? (I’m always open to suggestions, so feel free to slide into my DMs and drop yours there!)

Whenever the list reaches a certain length, I revisit it + choose a requested topic to post about. And one that’s been requested several times is a roundup of the tools/resources I use most often in my business.

Which brings me to Lesson #1 I’ve learned:

You aren’t only interested in improving your copy. You’re also interested in making the process of taking action easier on yourself. More doable, day to day.

I love that about you! So, I promise to keep sharing more about this kind of thing.

Lesson #2?

If you hadn’t suggested it, I wouldn’t have thought to share this kind of thing on my own.

I’m not a business coach or a productivity guru or a professional time organizer (<– Is that a thing? Because it should totally be a thing!)

I’m a health professional + business owner who’s trying hard to leave plenty of room for the non-business parts of life, too.

And I think that’s why you’re interested in hearing my perspective on this. Because you’re in the very same boat.

So, meta-lesson / reminder to us all:

Ask your people what they want you to make. Then make it for them. (No guesswork required!)

So, without even further ado…

I give you: A roundup of the top business resources I use every day:

1. TRELLO (project management)

When it comes to project management, this tool has saved my sanity + boosted my productivity! It allows you to create + replicate lists of tasks, attach files, set due dates, communicate with collaborators / team members, and, best of all… it’s FREE!

TIP: To set up a new workflow, start by taking notes (on paper) to track all the steps of a repeating task (e.g., creating a blog post) in real time, as you do them. Then, transfer these steps onto cards under a board in Trello (e.g., labeled “BLOG POST CREATION”).

BONUS TIP: Create a board labeled DONE and transfer task cards to this board as you complete them. At the end of the day, click “Archive all cards on board” + they’ll disappear. It feels ahhhh-mazing!

2. CALENDLY (online scheduler)

From client appointments to meetings with team members + collaborators, Calendly makes it easy for folks to book time in your schedule… without your involvement!

You simply set up your availability in Calendly itself (or connect it to your online calendar of choice) + embed the sign-up form on your landing page or website… or you can send a link directly if you prefer.

TIP: The FREE version comes with plenty of bells + whistles, including a questionnaire builder, redirect options, and customization options.

3. TYPEFORM (form/survey builder)

I honestly don’t know which I love more about this tool: Its beautifully minimalist design or its stupid-simple, intuitive interface. Collecting info from your audience shouldn’t be a hassle… for you OR for them!

Boasting integration options with Mailchimp, Trello, and the Google Suite of apps, Typeform has more potential uses than you’d ever need.

I especially love using it to poll my email list, collect feedback/testimonials, and gather initial info about a copywriting client’s business before we start work on a project together.

4. MAILCHIMP (email marketing platform)

If I could boil all my business lessons learned into 2 recommendations, they’d both have to do with email:

  • You’ve gotta curb the addiction to check email all day long.
  • And you need an email marketing platform to manage your list of subscribers.

Mailchimp is the tool I use for the latter.

There are plenty of premium options out there with lots of cool functionality. But, if you’re just starting out, and/or have a clearly-defined niche you’re speaking to, Mailchimp is an excellent solution.

TIP: If your list is under 2000 people, it’s FREE!

5. DUBSADO (customer relationship manager)

As an owner of 2 businesses, I like to run things nice + lean, with as little overhead cost as I can. So, at $29/month, Dubsado is one of my largest recurring investments.

Why spend the money? Because it does SO MUCH.

From inquiries to lead management to contracts to client communications to so much more than I can list here… if Dubsado is an iceberg, I’ve merely scaled the tip, and I’ve been blown away by all this platform can do.

6. SOCIAL WARFARE (social sharing buttons)

Content is king… but even the best blog post in the world is only valuable if it’s shared.

Those little, brightly-colored buttons you see on every blog post I publish that make it super-easy to share? That’s Social Warfare in action!

7. TAILWIND (Pinterest scheduler)

Did you know Pinterest is the #1 source of traffic to my blog?

Far from “just another social media platform,” Pinterest is actually a powerful search engine… and Tailwind is the way I keep that engine running in my favor!

With time-saving functions that enable you to create, schedule, and re-share pins automatically, Tailwind is the ultimate “set it + forget it” solution.

8. PLANN (Instagram scheduler)

Oh, Plann. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

If you’ve ever wondered how a word nerd / health professional like me manages to maintain an Insta feed that’s actually appealing to the eye, this little app is the reason.

From its grid format that lets you play with different post configurations to its caption field that allows you total and complete freedom to space your text as you wish(!), Plann helps me plan + schedule scroll-slowing posts on my fave social media platform.

9. G SUITE (communication/storage/collaboration apps)

Google’s effectively taking over the world, so it’s only appropriate that they’d have an app for just about every basic business need. G Suite is your one-stop repository for them all!

I use it primarily for email, file storage, and document creation + sharing with copywriting clients.

10. FOCUS KEEPER (work sprint timer)

Where would I be without the Focus Keeper app? I don’t even want to guess.

At first glance, it seems unimpressive: Just a little timer with a short list of customization features.

But, it’s oh so much more than that!
